And I'm just sitting here, with a house full of cars on all-seasons. I don't think my parents believe in snow tires.

Then again, I'm not sure if the Silverado's Mickey Thompson Baja MTZs could really be considered all season tires.

Kinja'd!!!

The Fusion has Goodyear Eagle somethings on it, probably RS-As. They're "performance" tires, apparently. Sounds great for snow traction.

Kinja'd!!!

The Safari has Goodyear Viva 2s on the back, and some sort of 8 year old Uniroyal Tiger Paws on the front. Should I really be surprised that I'm the worst off when it comes to tires?

Kinja'd!!!

I can say that while they're all all-season tires, they have plenty of tread on them. Which I guess makes things a little safer...

All seasons? Lol. And here I am rolling on my track tires. Direzzas all around.

If the Mickey's have a snowflake somewhere on them, it should be the best of the bunch.

Goodyear Eagle RS-As are just terrible tires all around. They're supposedly a "high performance all-season" but they're not terribly grippy in the dry, barely acceptable in the wet, and somewhat dangerous on snow or ice.

They shouldn't really believe in four wheel drive either.

Kinja'd!!!

I just had my shop get me a set of snow tires for the wagon.

I mean, I've driven on 2/32 in snow up hills and "managed," but I don't really want the definition of "managed" to be "barely survived."

I'm not sure if they do or not, but that truck is fucking unstoppable in the snow.

It becomes the "Oh shit there's 8 inches of snow outside and we don't have any food" grocery getter in the winter.

Then maybe they aren't RS-As, because they seemed very competent in the wet. They're Goodyear Eagles though.

In my experience, all-seasons are generally adequate. If you don't want to spend the extra money, and/or don't have space to store tires, and you don't have a RWD car with 300+ lb of torque, you will probably be okay.

Meh, they've made it through the last however many years they've been driving on all-seasons, I don't see them converting any time soon.

you just gave me a heart attack that you had a pink Pontiac Safari wagon with this pic. You would have been my best friend overnight, and it would be weird to have 2 pink 60's GM wagons owned by Opponauts. People might start talking.

No, no. Just a stock photo. I have the lowly GMC Van version of the Safari, sadly.

Yeah, I know how that is. My dad has done the same. He just bought a Subaru, and I think this is the second winter with it, but no proper tires. We haven't really had a storm bad enough, but he did just throw a new set of tires on it.

I asked my shop this morning about it because I have a nearly new set of all-seasons on my Magnum, and they were basically like, "we get a discount, which tires do you want?" On the not so good side, very limited selection of tires for the Magnum, on the pretty good side, both come well recommended.

Seeing as my commute will be something like 100 miles a day or so, I'd rather have the tires than an accident.

honestly it really depends on the geography of your area in my opinion.

I have All Seasons on my FWD Milan V6. It does GREAT in the snow. It's also flat as a board here in Metro Detroit.

I don't have steep hills to climb (or stop at the bottom of). So a solid set of All seasons can be PERFECTLY FINE in even a harsh winter.

Last year we had just under 100 inches of snow in Metro Detroit, and I had tires that were almost needing replacing (I replaced them this fall before snow came here).

A little bit of intelligence in driving goes a long way.

I think the M+S on the Mickey's means Mud & Snow.

Eagles are fine for just driving around but they are crappy performance tires. once the temps drop down for winter they have very little traction on dry pavement. I had a many customers complain that their Eagle RS-A's/GT's are noisey and do not perform well.

In most of Canada all season tires don't cut it for winter driving. They get very hard in low temps and the level of traction a softer winter tire provides is apparent after just one drive. winter tires respond better in cold temps and have the tread pattern to get through heavier snow. It's science but it also depends on where you live. I bet people in Florida have never seen a winter tire ad of tv but up here that's the only tire commercials you will see during the winter.

I'm still rolling/sliding around on mud tires like an idiot. Was thinking of getting some winter tires on the deathtrap this year, but then I was a bit too generous Christmas shopping for others :/

Lots of people seem to confuse snow tyres with winter tyres, but there is a difference. If you don't get much snow wherever you are, you don't need a snow-specific tread pattern. There may still be good reasons to get winter tyres, which are designed to work in colder temperatures.

That said, you almost never need snow tyres or winter tyres. They just give you more grip and make you safer, able to drive at more normal speeds where on summer/AS tyres you'd have to slow right down and be incredibly careful.

I just drove a Maserati on summer tires in the snow this morning. I don't see what the big fuss about winter tires is...

(sarcasm, but that actually happened this morning. Not as terrifying as expected)

Your van should be better than my Hyundai, it has 4 different bargin bin all seasons on it. You can barely launch the car in wet without wheelspin, so this will be fun.

I recently purchased and put on a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks on my 2011 Camaro SS. I downsized the wheel from 20 to 19 and got a bigger tire (I will not post the actual size difference because I am too lazy to search my e-mails from Tire Rack and it is too cold outside for me to look). I am extremely pleased with the tires thus far.

We have had some moderate snow (I live in Nebraska, Paris of the Midwest) since I put the tires on and the car is like night and day so far. That being said, I haven't had it out in anything really nasty or slippery.

There are three additional side effects which are positive, or negative, depending on your point of view. 1) The ride quality is noticeably better than my stock wheel/tire combo; 2) tire noise is surprisingly less which means I can hear the engine much more; 3) 16 year old girls and 55 year old men seem to love my new wheels much more than the stock wheels.

I SO do not miss snow. At all. I think I would be ok with it snowing and being 15-20 degrees for about one day every year, and then back up to the 60s for the rest of winter. Meh. I feel so bad for everyone having to deal with this winter storm thing I keep hearing about, best of luck to you all.

We have the upgraded 18 inch wheels that come with the SE Appearance Package, so that might be why we have the Goodyears over Contis.

They were all brand new when I bought the wheels in August, it could be worse though. I have a set of wheels with tires so bald one of them has a 6inch flat spot.
